WILLIAM JOHN OETTING, 95, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 and MARGARET A. (SMITH) OETTING, 88, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at home following her battle with multiple myeloma cancer. They were married on July 6, 1944, and had a family of nine children. They had their home in Fort Wayne and New Haven. They moved to Ft. Myers, Fla. in 1973, where William managed a privately owned orange grove. They relocated to Houston, Texas in 2001. Born July 26, 1917, William was the eldest of six children and the son of the late William Henry and Luetta (Bohnke). He worked on his parents dairy farm and was later employed at the former U.S. Rubber Company before he started his own landscaping business. Born Jan. 17, 1925, in Fort Wayne, Margaret was one of two children and the daughter of the late Charles Albert Smith and Almetta Reimen. She was employed by McDonalds Corporation for numerous years as a manager and bookkeeper. Surviving are their eight children, William K. (Fran), Elaine M. (Jerry) Gaff, Shirley Tholen, Janet (Jim) Stillwell, Donna Avey (Jim) Dick, Ronald, Dean, and Wayne (Lori); 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; William's siblings, Hilda Ann Johnston, Erven (Lois), Albert (Jane), and Walter (Lois); Margaret's brother, Earl; and numerous nieces and nephews. They were also preceded in death by their daughter, Sandra; grandson, Tony Avey; great-granddaughter, Olivia; and William's brother, Arthur. A joint Memorial Mass will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, in Houston, Texas. Cremation will be followed with interment at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. The family requests memorials to Vernon Manor Children's Home, Wabash, Ind.
