JEAN THOMPSON, 81, of Fort Wayne, was called home to Heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at New Haven Care Rehabilitation Center. "A very special thank you to the entire staff of New Haven Care & Rehab and to the entire staff of Heartland Hospice who took such good care of a very special woman over these last three and a half years." Jean was loved by all that knew her and served as a surrogate mom to many through her life. Her working years were many. She worked various jobs over the years but always felt most fulfilled when she was working somewhere where she could be a true help to others. She worked in retail and as a nurses aide and QMA at various nursing facilities and temp agencies in the Fort Wayne area. Jean had been a devoted wife twice: first to George Oakley, who proceeded her in death in 1961 and then to Larry Thompson, who also proceeded her in death in 2002. She had also been a loyal sister to her brother, Merle (Dorothy, who survives) Sickle, who died in 2001. She was the beloved mother of four, John (Stephanie) of New Haven, Barbara, who she has reunited with in Heaven, Alan (Karen) of Indianapolis, and Mary (Eric) Hargett of Fort Wayne. But her biggest joys were her grandkids, Kerrie (Adam) Dunn, Michael (Fiona) Pe, Hannah (Casey) Moriarty, Scott Patrick, Storme (her first grandchild) Anya, DeeDee, Jacob, and Joshua; and her lone great-grandchild, Lily. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Community Christian Reformed Church, 3434 Lahmeyer Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. James Weikel officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at the church. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice of Fort Wayne, New Haven Care & Rehabilitation, or donor's choice. Arrangements by Siler Funeral Service, 8632 Decatur Road, Fort Wayne.
