PHILIP W. SLATER, 82, died on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Born Nov. 14, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Mich., he was a son of the late Ward and Laura Slater. Philip was a truck driver for the Kroger Corporation for 47 years and Business Agent for Teamsters Local 414. He was a World War II Marine Corp. veteran and a member of Waynedale United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Madalene Slater; son, Todd (Nancy) Slater; and granddaughters, Sarah and Laura Slater. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Lynn Slater; and three brothers, Oliver, Stanley and Laurie Slater. Service is 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling 30 minutes prior to service. Calling also from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
