HERBERT CARL RICHARD ULRICH, 92, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, in Austell, Ga. Born Feb. 4, 1921, in Sandusky, Ohio, he was a son of Alfred and Erna Ulrich. Herbert graduated from Sandusky High School. During World War II, he served his country as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 based in Italy. He attended Ohio State University, majoring in English and Fine Arts, and was noted for the many fine pieces of pottery he created. He married Irmgard Barth in 1947 and lived in Fort Wayne most of his life. Herb was employed by Dana Corp. for 31 years. Surviving are his children, Paul (Rinda) Ulrich of Fort Wayne, Sandra (Rick) Shockley of Richardson, Texas and Daniel (Kathleen) Ulrich of Acworth, Ga.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister-in-law, Martha Ulrich of Huron, Ohio; and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irmgard, in 2006; parents; brother, Edmund; and sister, Emsy. Memorial service is 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with memorial calling two hours prior to service. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery.
