EUGENE D. "JASPER" YARDE, 81, of Garrett, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor, Garrett. Born June 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Claude and Mable (Grogg) Yarde. He was a school Administrator, Principal for J.E. Ober Elementary School, Garrett, for 15 years, retiring in May 1986. He founded, owned and operated the Blue Moon Drive-in for 25 years. He was a World War II Army veteran, where he was wounded in North Africa and Anzio. he received the Bronze Star. He was a 1941 Garrett High School graduate and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Indiana University. He was a member of Garrett School Board from 1958 to 1961. He was also a member of Community Church of Corunna, Garrett Masonic Lodge 537, York Rite, Mizpah Shrine, Auburn Moose Lodge, Garrett Eagles, Garrett American Legion, Phi Epslion Kappa and Keyser Township Trust. He married M. Jane Bradin on June 29, 1947. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Julie Yarde and Dan and Jordan Yarde, all of Garrett; and two grandchildren, Justin and Dakota Yarde. He was preceded in death by his wife, M. Jane, Jan. 16, 1998; and one sister, Mary June Winebrenner. Funeral service is 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo, with the Rev. Richard Pickard officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial at Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett. Memorials to Corunna Community Church or Mizpah Shrine Transportation Fund.
