Jobin, Raymond
DOVER - Raymond Jobin, a longtime Dover resident, businessman, and volunteer, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015 in San Diego, California. In July of 2012 he moved to San Diego to be close to his oldest two children, Marc and Donna, after a long period of declining health. He left his earthly body peacefully and is thrilled to be in the presence of the Lord. Ray was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Concord, N.H., to the late Henry Jobin and Mary (Desmaris) Jobin. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. He was called back from the reserves during the Korean War and served another 18 months supporting that effort here at home. He moved to Dover in 1952 where he met and married Helen Otash on June 6, 1954. They had five children and were married for 56 years until her death in 2010. Mr. Jobin was the manager of Marett's Furniture and Kauf's Home and Auto stores for several years. At the age of 42 he became a New York Life Insurance agent and was one of their top agents in the country, becoming a qualifying and life member of the Million Dollar Round Table in 1983. He retired from New York Life after 21 years but continued working for many years as a financial advisor. He was a proud member of the Dover-Durham Rotary club and served as president in 1987-1988. Ray spent countless hours volunteering for the annual Dover United Appeal campaigns, raising money for the United Way, which supported local charities, ultimately serving as director of the 1974 campaign and president in 1976. In 1987 he was recognized by Governor Sununu as the Strafford County Volunteer of the Year for his work with United Way as well as his work with Concerned Citizens for Drug and Alcohol Abuse, an organization he helped start with Helen. Surviving family members include his son, Marc Jobin, and his wife, JoAnn (Kissell) Jobin, daughter, Donna Zeman, and her husband, David Zeman, son, Bruce Jobin, and his wife, Liliana (Lemos) Jobin, and son, Brian Jobin, and his wife, Amanda Barker-Jobin. He is also survived by his sister, Theresa Hayes, and brother, Robert Jobin; as well as 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His son Thomas Jobin died August 28, 2000. There will be a public viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 25 Third St., Dover, followed by a graveside service at St. Mary's Cemetery on Dover Point Road.
