Marie A. Pettis Dover – Marie A. (DuBois) Pettis, 89, beloved wife of Joseph G. Pettis, passed away on Saturday April 19, 2014 after a lengthy illness, at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Dover on January 1, 1925, she was the daughter of Arthur R. and Alice M. (Hanratty) Dubois. A lifelong resident of Dover, Marie was a 1942 graduate of Dover High School. Following graduation, Marie worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Planning and Estimating, later transferring to the Long Beach Shipyard at Terminal Island in California. Returning home after the war, Marie worked for the Esmond Blanket Co., where she met her future husband Joe. They were married on June 22, 1946 and went on to raise four children. In addition to being a busy mother, Marie worked for Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in the business office and later for Dr. Guy Marshall until her retirement. Marie was an active member of the Dover Senior Center for many years, serving as President of the organization for several terms. Marie greatly enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, playing bingo, baking, knitting, and dancing. She will be remembered for her warm heart and bright smile. In addition to her husband, Marie is survived by her daughter Alicia M. Philips of Dover; son Mark and wife Diana of Dover; son James and wife Evelyn of Dover and son David of Dover and former wife Joanne of Somersworth. She also leaves behind her brother, Arthur DuBois and wife Mary of Dover; along with many nieces and nephews. Marie was the proud grandmother of eight: Allen, Scott, Diana, Serena, James, Sean, Natalie and Kate, and great grandmother of six: Joshua, Alyssa, Sarah, Brian, David, and Gabrielle. She was predeceased by her brother John DuBois. The family would like to extend deep thanks and gratitude to Wentworth Home Care and Hospice, along with Dr. Klein of Seacoast Pulmonary Medicine for their attentive and loving care they provided during her illness. Marie also wished to extend a special thanks to her caregiver Deb LaFountain. Calling hours will be Monday April 21, 2014 from 4 to 7 PM at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, NH. Funeral services will be Tuesday April 22, 2014 at 11 AM at the Tasker Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Mary New Cemetery in Dover. Estelle M. Proulx EXETER - Estelle M. Proulx, 101, of Exeter died Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Center at Exeter. She was born in Epping, January 16, 1913, the daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia Proulx. Estelle was educated by the sisters of St. Anne in Canada where her sister, Sr. Marie Louise Proulx taught. She was a graduate of St. Ann's Academy in Marlboro, Mass. the class of 1931. In the 1930s she was the substitute organist for St. Joseph's Church and owned and operated Estelle's Variety Shoppe in Epping, closing the shoppe in 1941. After closing her shoppe, she moved to Hartford, Conn. working as a buyer for large department stores and then as a governess for children of wealthy families teaching them piano and French. Estelle became a private nurse's aide until moving back to Epping in 1970 to care for her mother, following her mother's death she moved to Exeter and went into the Antique Business buying and selling. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed theater, sports, photography, collecting records and cookbooks and playing the piano. Family members include her niece, Marguerite Vallone of Epping and many great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at S. Michael's Church, corner of Front and Lincoln Streets, Exeter, Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Epping.
