Place an Obituary

How to place an obituary in Foster's Daily Democrat

Obituaries can be submitted via e-mail: [email protected]. We will also accept typed submissions by mail or fax; handwritten obituaries will not be accepted, nor will we take dictation by phone.

All obituaries must be prepaid by credit card or check before we can publish. We accept credit cards by phone at 603-516-2964.

Obituaries not submitted by either a funeral home, cremation service or other official entity must be submitted by the executor of the deceased’s estate, or someone specifically designated by the executor to conduct this task. We must be provided with the executor’s billing information and contact information for approval of the obituary submission, and either the contact information for an official entity with which we may make a confirmation of death, or a certified copy of a death certificate. This information must all be confirmed prior to publication of the obituary.

The obituary deadline is 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. for the next day's publication. Everything, including payment, must be received by deadline for the next day's publication.

Standard Obituary
The Portsmouth Herald, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Exeter News-Letter, Hampton Union, The York Weekly, York County Coast Star, Rochester Times and Sanford News will provide all families with a 75-word standard obituary FREE OF CHARGE. This standard obituary should include the name of the deceased, age, address, date of death and birth and names of immediate family members, whether they survive or are deceased.
A standard obituary does not include details about funeral services or memorials.

PORTSMOUTH — John Doe, 83, of Portsmouth, died Monday, April 19, 2016, at Porsmouth Regional Hospital following a period of failing health.
Born in Worcester, Mass., on May 12, 1920, he was the son of John and Jayne Doe.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Portsmouth; son Jack and his wife, Kathy, of Kittery, Maine; daughter Lynn Racine of Sarasota, Fla.; son Matthew and his partner, Bill, of York, Maine; daughter Pamela and her husband, Carl Goodman, of Stratham; and son Robert of Boston, Mass.; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his siter, Muriel Doe Johnson

If families want to share more information about their loved ones than fits in a standard 75-word obituary, they may do so at a cost of $1.50 per word beyond the 75-word limit for the Portsmouth Herald, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Exeter NewsLetter and Hampton Union, and $1.00 per word above limit for The York Weekly, York County Coast Star, Rochester Times and Sanford News and $1.95 per word above the limit for Seacoast Sunday.

He enjoyed being a musician, entertaining many fans.

Services
The cost of listing services is $89 for up to 75 words in any daily or weekly publications and $110.00 for up to 75 words in Seacoast Sunday. There will be an additional charges if the services listing appears in another paper or edition. The death notice will include only name, age, address and date of death, as well as details about calling hours, funeral or memorial service, interment, suggestions for memorial donations and the funeral home’s name and address.

A premium services announcement is available at a rate of $1.5 per word beyond the 75-word limit in the Portsmouth Herald, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Exeter News-Letter and Hampton Union, and $1.00 per word above the limit in The York Weekly, York County Coast Star, Rochester Times and Sanford News, and $1.95 per word above the limit for Seacoast Sunday.

Second-Day Obituary Notice
Families wishing to run a notice a second time and in the same publication may do so at the same cost of the first day. Weekday Portsmouth Herald and Foster’s Daily Democrat repeat rate does not apply to Seacoast Sunday.
