Agnes Jane Crowell

DOVER - This is the journey of an extraordinary woman --Agnes Jane Crowell.
Agnes was a proud Canadian of French and indigenous heritage. She was born January 2, 1922 in Joggins, Chignecto Bay, NS. She was a coal-miner's daughter and one of eleven children. From modest beginnings, they were all very successful.
They moved to Minto, NB., when she was a child, and then she went to Montreal where she met and married Frank Crowell in 1940. It was a vibrant time living in the city during the war, and after a few years they started their family. Agnes and Frank had five children.
In 1954 they moved to Nashwaaksis, NB, then in 1962 to the States, and ultimately Rollinsford/Dover, where her family prospered. Agnes was a stylish and favorite teller at Strafford Savings Bank for several years. She took much pleasure in her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow up. After Frank died in 1984, Agnes retired to play golf and bridge. She spent her winters in the Fla. Keys and summers in Rochester and Bow Lake, N.H., with her family.
Agnes had native intelligence, an abundant sense of humor, and a beautiful smile. She was a proud woman who inspired in her family a love of reading, the desire to learn, and longing to travel. She loved a good party with single malt, and a rousing game of cards. She taught us good manners and instilled in us strength of character, a strong work ethic and perseverance. She filled our world with laughter and made life more interesting.
Agnes was a wonderful mother and cherished her many friends. She leaves her beloved children -- Francie, Keith (Susan), Kathy, Alan (Cathy), and Danny (Tracy); grandchildren -- Kevin, Katie, Brian and Chloe; great-grandchildren -- Murphy, Connor, Griffin and Riley; and one sister, Patricia Cochrane, of Fredericton, NB, Canada.
Whenever we needed a noble person to lean on, we turned to Agnes. She was fearless. She was the best person among us.

Agnes died peacefully on May 4, 2013. Friends are invited to call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.
