Bernice 'Bunny' Helene Chapman

PORTSMOUTH - Bernice "Bunny" Helene Chapman, 93, died peacefully on March 5, 2013, in Portsmouth. The daughter of the late Herbert and Alice (Lane) Shepperson, Bunny was born Dec. 2, 1919. in Salem, Mass. She was one of five children and the last surviving sibling.

Bunny was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, the late Omer Edwin Chapman. Bunny and Omer raised four children in Enfield, Conn., who survive her: Jeanne Tiedemann of Houston, Texas; Hank Chapman and his wife Sonja of Rye; Michael Chapman and his wife Sherry of Coventry, Conn.; and Don Chapman and his wife Alexis of Sunderland, Mass. She leaves six grandchildren to cherish her memory: Joni Biggers, Terri Tiedemann, Carson Chapman, Will Chapman, Amber LaChappelle and McLellan White; along with two great-grandchildren, Brody and Kalum; and her extended family. Bunny was predeceased by her grandson, Ryan.

Bunny was a spirited young woman who enjoyed dancing to Big Band music. On their first date, Bunny and Omer went to a Red Sox game and then ate out at the Clam Box. Red Sox games and lunch at the Clam Box have since become a family tradition. They were married in 1949 in Urbana, Ill., where Omer was stationed, and lived briefly in Florida before settling in Connecticut. Bunny loved to read and had an appreciation of good music. She passed both of these traits to her children.

Services: Visiting hours will be held Monday, March 11, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, N.H., followed by funeral services at 11:45 a.m. A graveside service and interment will be held at Spring Street Cemetery in Essex, Mass.
