DURHAM - Edna Peters Follansbee passed away peacefully at the Langdon Place of Dover Rehabilitation Center, Dover, November 22, 2012.
Edna was the daughter of Anna and Sard Peters. She was born in Dover, April 2, 1918 where she lived and attended the Dover schools, graduating from St. Mary's Academy and McIntosh College. Edna was a hair stylist and worked in her sister's beauty salon upon graduation before she met and married her husband, Clayton 'Red' Follansbee, who predeceased her in 1999. After their marriage, they moved to Washington, D.C., where Clayton was stationed during World War II. At that time, Edna was employed in Washington as a hair stylist. After Clayton was shipped overseas, Edna moved back to Dover until Clayton returned from the war. In 1948, Edna and Clayton moved to Madbury Road in Durham, NH where she resided for 58 years.
Being an accomplished artist, Edna was a founding member of the Durham Art Association, which was organized in 1961. She also belonged to the Kittery Art Association, the Kittery/York Art Association, where she had her paintings displayed, and the Copley Art Association in Boston, Mass. Edna was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Club at St. Thomas More Church in Durham and a member of the Durham Garden Club. She worked at the Social Security Administration Office in Dover, N.H. However, her most important role was being a wife to Clayton and mother to her three daughters.
Edna leaves her three surviving daughters and their spouses; Gail and J.P. Nadeau of Rye, Cheryl and James Mahoney of Barrington, and Pamela and John Reckendorf of Somersworth; eight grandchildren; Kymberleigh Nadeau Ferguson and her husband, Michael of Ormond Beach, Fla, Courtney Nadeau of Windsor, Connecticut, Jay Nadeau and his wife Karen of Rye, Justin Nadeau and his wife, Michelle of Portsmouth, Matthew Mahoney of Barrington, Brett Mahoney and his wife Karen of Hampton, Derek Reckendorf and his wife, Kasarah of Somersworth, and Angela Reckendorf Sheehan and her husband, Corey, of Dover; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who are all going to sadly miss her. Edna is also survived by her sister Gladys Peters Skillings of Bradenton, Fla.
She was predeceased by two sisters; Catherine and Mary, and 5 brothers; Philip, John, Forest, George, and Frank.

Prayers for the family and friends will be at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Avenue, Dover at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012. Following the prayers, all are invited to a memorial service celebrating Edna's life at 2 p.m. in the Library, at the Langdon Place of Dover, 60 Middle Road, where she lived the past 6 ½ years. Here she met wonderful people and made many friends - the staff, employees, and residents, all who gave her so much of their love and caring during her life there ... and to all of them, the family is very grateful.
