Ernest C. "Ernie" Partridge

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Ernest "Ernie" C. Partridge, 74 of Emery's Bridge Road in South Berwick, died on December 6, 2012, at York Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H. on July 28, 1938, he was one of sixteen children to Horace F. and Florence J. (Palmer) Partridge. Ernie served his country as a member of the United States Army in the 1960s.

Ernie met and on December 31, 1981, married his loving wife Sheila E. (Beamish) Partridge and together they made their home on Emery's Bridge Road for thirty four years.

He could drive and operate anything on wheels or tracks, enjoying his own collection of trucks and tractors and putting them to good use for business and keeping his own farm operating. Over the years he raised many animals on the farm, sharing them with friends, family and neighbors. Anyone that knew Ernie knew that he was the first to help and no job was too big. He was always willing to take on a local project like building the motocross track at Spring Hill or hop in the truck and make his way to camp in Peru or Weld, Maine and build and work on the property.

Over the years he drove truck both locally and in New York, he loved to wheel and deal and looked forward to driving around the area looking for machinery to buy. He founded Clearwater Artesian Well Company and operated it for a number of years.

He is survived by his loving wife Sheila of South Berwick, ten brothers and sisters George Partridge, Edwin Partridge, Kenneth Partridge, Frederick Partridge, Robert Partridge, Murilla Rohach, Olive Partridge, Loise Hillsgrove, Patricia Sweeney, Florence LeBlanc as well as his daughter Misty Partridge, His son Shawn Leighton, and four step children Dennis Horne, Michael Horne, Catherine Crawley,and Theresa Horne, eight grandchildren and the family of caregivers and friends during his wonderful care at York Hospital. Ernie was predeceased by six brithers and sisters.

Friends may visit with Ernie's family on Tuesday December 11, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery, Maine 03904. A funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday at noon in the First Parish Federated Church in South Berwick with the Rev. Donna Muise officiating. Family flowers only, donations may be made in his memory to York Hospital Friendraising 16 Hospital Drive York Maine 03909. Care for Ernie's family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
