KEENE, N.H. — Ernest R. Babcock, 80, formerly of Maple Avenue in Keene, New Hampshire, died at Pine Rock Manor in Warner, New Hampshire, on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, after a period of failing health.
He was born in Sanford, Maine, on December 31, 1928, the son of Ernest E. and Eva I. (Rowe) Babcock.
Ernest grew up and attended schools in Maine and was a resident of Keene since 1993, moving there from Maine.
He served as an air policeman with the U.S. Air Force in the 564th Air Police Squadron from 1951 to 1953.
He was employed by Sprague Electric in Sanford from 1970 to 1985 as a shift leader and later was employed in the maintenance department at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock-Cheshire Medical Center in Keene for more than ten years, retiring in 2003.
He is survived by three sons, Robert L. Babcock, of Keene, New Hampshire, Michael R. Babcock, of West Virginia, and Daniel E. Babcock, of New Mexico; three brothers, Richard Babcock, of Ohio, and John Babcock and Rene Babcock, both of Maine; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, New Hampshire, on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Steven M. Kucharski, the associate pastor at St. Bernard's Parish, will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in the New Hampshire Veterans' Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, New Hampshire, at 1 p.m. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9 to 10 a.m.
