George W. Durepo

Lee - George W. Durepo, 90 of Lee, passed away, March 14, 2014. George was born April 7, 1923, in Hyde Park, Mass., son of the late Vinal and Margaret Durepo.

George enjoyed making and flying model airplanes and participating in the first Soap Box Derby race. George's son, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have all participated in the Soap Box derby under George's watchful eye.

He also enjoyed traveling across country, camping, fishing and gatherings with family and friends.

George was an extraordinary carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Union for 65 years. He settled in Lee in 1957. He was one of the first volunteer firefighters in Lee. He worked on various construction sites in the Seacoast area, including the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant. George built his own home, designed and built numerous travel trailers and converted a bus into a custom motor home. He operated and owned a RV parts and repair business. For many years George volunteered for the town of Lee at the Swap Shop. He helped many people in the community by refurbishing used electronics and furniture for those who otherwise would go without.

George is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Meda; his daughter, Cheryl Geddis and husband Jeff of Lee; his grandchildren Thomas Durepo Jr. and wife Mindy of Berwick, Tammi Melanson and husband PJ of Berwick, Adam & Becca Geddis of Lee, Andy, Jonny & Jessie Geddis of Georgia; and 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his son, Thomas Durepo Sr.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 22, at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall at the Lee Church Congregational.
