NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Grace Louise (McGuire) Mills, 91, of Elm Street, died Friday morning, January 18, 2013 at Varney Crossing. She was born in Sherborn, Mass., on February 13, 1921, a daughter of Archie B. and Grace Ella (Willis) McGuire. She was a graduate of Framingham High School and Framingham Business College.
On September 15, 1940, she married Leslie F. Mills of Natick, Mass. Following his return from the Pacific theatre in WWII they made their home in Framingham, Mass. In 1951 they moved to Berwick, ME to own and operate the "Forget-Me-Not" facility, consisting of a gas station, restaurant, store, and overnight cabins in the Beaver Dam section of town, primarily serving the employees of the local lumber mill located on Beaver Dam Pond.
Following this she worked in the office of Siegel's City Department Store in Dover, N.H., for many years, and then in the credit department of Strafford National Bank of Dover until her retirement. She then volunteered for many years at the Hackmatack Playhouse of Berwick. She was a member of the Berwick United Methodist Church and of the United Methodist Women for many years.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Arthur McGuire, and one sister, Helen (McGuire) Davies.
Grace is survived by two sisters, Louise (McGuire) Cotter of Milford, Mass. and Janet (McGuire) Briggs of Marlboro, Mass.; two children, Nancy Louise (Mills) Farley and her husband Patrick Farley of Cary NC, Frederick "Rick" Mills and his wife Kathy Mills of Berwick, ME; three grandchildren, Sherry Courter of Pittsboro, N.C., Bill Farley of Cary, N.C., Bethany Mills of Hanover, N.H.; five great grandchildren, Spencer Courter of Pittsboro, N.C., Logan and Justin Farley of Cary, N.C., Wygant Courter IV and Ariel Courter of Harvey's Lake, Pa.
Calling hours will be on Monday, January 21, 2013 from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick.
