John A. Chick Sr.

PORTSMOUTH - John A. Chick Sr., 77 of Portsmouth, died suddenly Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

He was born in Exeter on June 10, 1935, the son of Ernest C. Chick and Gladys H. (Bean) Chick.

John was currently a bus driver for Student Transportation of America. He served in the Army National Guard and was a former police officer for Greenland and Durham. He was an avid NASCAR fan and was a loyal supporter of the OH-TOO Racing Team. He also enjoyed summers at the family camp in Alton.

He is survived by his children, Sherri Labrie and her husband Roger of Las Vegas and John A. Chick, Jr. and his wife Caren of Greenland; stepchildren, Warren E. Hodgdon, Jr. and his wife Marlene of Portsmouth and Keith R. Hodgdon of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Jason Chick, Amber Fuller, Jennifer Chick and Stephanie Chick; stepgrandchild, Jason Kingsbury: great-grandchildren, Hannah, Cameron Kaden, Lucas, Brinley; step-grandchildren, Col. Jeffrey Hodgdon and his wife Catie, Scott Hodgdon and his wife Deborah, Sherri Ritz and her husband Greg, Stephen Cooney, and Robert Miner; brother William E. Chick, several nieces, nephews and step-great-grandchildren.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy P. Chick and his parents.

Services: A time of visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. with a memorial service immediately following at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. Interment will follow at Newington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Kittery Point, 636 Haley Road, Kittery Point, Maine 03905.
