DOVER - Katherine Kraus of Dover passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on August 1, 2013. Mrs. Kraus was born in Schupljaja, Yugoslavia on April 25, 1934 and was a survivor of the Molidorf internment camp. She immigrated to the United States in 1951 with her parents, Marianna and Josef Jung and settled in upstate New York.
Katherine married her husband Charles, who had a long career in the United States Air Force, followed by another full career at UPS. They traveled the world together while in the Air Force and settled in Dover. In addition to raising their three sons, Mrs. Kraus occupied time by holding elective offices in the NCO Wives Club and Ladies' Sodality and volunteered as a Den Mother, Team Mother and American Red Cross.
Mrs. Kraus was employed at the Base Exchanges at Griffiss AFB, N.Y. and Pease AFB, N.H. and in 1978 became a familiar face for 22 years as the Revlon Beauty Advisor at the Pease Exchange. Everyone asked for the "Red Head" when they came in to buy Revlon. Mrs. Kraus served as a volunteer aide at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital and served St. Mary's Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister.
Katherine deeply loved her family, and made great efforts to make everyone feel special. Mrs. Kraus is survived by her husband Charles, her sons Charles, William and Thomas, daughters-in-law, Anna, Michele and Cheryl and her three grandchildren, Stephen, Mariana and Jakob.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kraus is predeceased by her brothers Frank Jung; Jakob Jung, and Josef Jung.
Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church (corner of Chestnut and Third Sts.).
