Mildred E. "Betty" Cragin
DOVER - Mildred E. "Betty" Cragin, 81, of Chestnut Street, died on Saturday 29, 2012 at Mass General Hospital in Boston, Mass.
Born April 11, 1931 in Medford, Mass. the daughter of Robert H. and Mildred G. (Merriam) Mullins. Betty graduated from high school in Everett, Massachusetts where she grew up. After many years of being a home maker, Betty worked as an LNA at Edgewood Manor in Portsmouth. She later worked in Housekeeping at UNH and returned to taking college classes in her 60s and 70s always trying to learn new things. She even started learning Spanish this year at the Dover Senior Center.
She had a zest for life which allowed her to try many things not typical of a woman her age, including climbing the Great Sand Dune National Monument in Colorado with her grandson, Conor, and indoor sky diving with her children and grandchildren in Nashua - when she was 80-years-old. Betty loved to talk, she loved to eat, she loved movies, and reading books. She loved animals and dancing with her grandson and her companion, Tony, at the Greek Festival.
Betty loved life, and the many for whom she cared. She had a heart of gold, a generous spirit and was truly unique. She made the world a better place by being here. She will be truly missed by her son, Cathal (Chuck) O'Ceallaigh and his wife, Stefanie Diamond of Barrington; a daughter, Faye Cragin of Dover; a son, Stephen Cragin Sr. of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Wendy Porter and her husband, Tim of South Berwick Maine; nine grandchildren, Mekeel Cragin and her husband, Rob Ullrich, Conor Cragin, Donal and Dylan O'Ceallaigh, Andrea Pasco and her husband, Scott, Meghan and Sydney Porter, Stephen Cragin, Jr. and his wife, Shannon and Brandon Cragin; five great grandchildren; a close companion, Tony Lazarus, and his family including daughters Diane, Joanne, Polly and their spouses, children and grandchildren.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Charles Richard Cragin Sr.; her father and mother, Robert H. and Mildred "Millie" Mullins of Kittery, Maine; and a granddaughter Kayla Rae Porter.
