Perry E. Turner

YORK, Maine - Perry E. Turner, 88, of 78 York St., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in Portsmouth Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Lakeview, Maine, the son of Colby W. and Mildred (Clewley) Turner and graduated from York High School in 1941.

Perry served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II before being discharged on Jan. 3, 1946. Perry farmed with his father on Brixham Road in York until 1955 when the family moved to York Village where he began his 30 years working for the U.S. Post Office. He was one of the first letter carriers in the Town of York. He was a volunteer firefighter with the York Village Fire Department from 1954-1975.

In his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, repairing small machinery, repairing books for the library and helping the church with mailings.

Perry leaves behind his three girls, Sally A. Turner and her life partner, Ted Boardman, of Portsmouth, Betty White of Lake City, Minn., and Kathleen Turner and her life partner, Brian Morrison, of Charlestown, Mass.; and other family members. He also leaves many great friends and neighbors. He is predeceased by his wife, Jean (Oliver) Turner and his two brothers, Raymond and William Turner.

Calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road., York, Maine.

A funeral home service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5. Burial will follow in the First Parish Cemetery.
