EAST ROCHESTER - Philip T. Hilton, 97, formerly of 38 Autumn St., passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Colonial Hill Rehabilitation Center and Living Center after a period of failing health.
He was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Strafford, the son of the late Frank W. and Vina L. (Stiles) Hilton. He has resided in this area most of his life and was a graduate of Rochester High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II
in Italy. Philip was postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in East Rochester for more than 20 years. He was an active member of True Memorial Church of Rochester and served as a deacon at East Rochester Grace Baptist Church for 40 years. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Members of his family include his wife of 75 years, Pauline Frances (Rhodes) Hilton of Rochester; son, Theodore and wife Elaine Hilton of Nashua; daughter, Sandra MacKay of Rochester; four grandchildren, Debbie Belair, Lynn Garvin and husband Jeff, Wendy Bisbee and husband Rob, Beth Abbott and husband Ken; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Sterling Hilton.
The funeral service will be Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester N.H., with Pastor Rick Lamirande of True Memorial Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Center Strafford Cemetery, Strafford, N.H., at a later date.
