SPRINGVALE, Maine - Richard G. Charrette, 81, of Springvale, died on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Richard was born in Saco on Oct. 6, 1931 to Joachim and Anais (Cote) Charrette. He grew up in the Biddeford/Saco area and attended local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Buckley during the Korean conflict. In 1953 he married Lillian Ferland. Together they raised six children and shared 55 years of marriage until her death in 2008.

Richard held several jobs in both Maine and Connecticut during his working life. He was employed for 12 years at Monaco Paving in Glastonbury, Conn., and at Dayton Sand and Gravel where he worked for many years until he retired. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, working outside around his house, hunting and almost any outdoor activity. He will be remembered as a hard working man who enjoyed helping his family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Richard was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Charrettel; four brothers, Roland, Roger, Raymond and Conrad Charrette; and three sisters, Gertrude and Jeannine Charrette and Anita Thibodeau.

Surviving are six children, Gail Labossiere and her husband (Richard) of Glastonbury, Conn., Ron Charrette and his wife Diana of Litchfield, Daniel Charrette and his wife Debbie of Alfred, David Charrette of Millinocket, Marc Charrette of Sanford and Patrick Charrette and his wife Cynthia of Shapleigh; 11 grandchildren, Kristin Labossiere, Eric Labossiere, Cori Charrette, Michael Charrette, Crystal Carter, Matthew Charrette, Joey Charrette, Kevin Charrette, Adam Charrette, Shane Charrette and Andrew Charrette; six great-grandchildren and two sisters, Therese Brochu and her husband Joseph of Biddeford and Fernande Wimble and her husband Richard of Enfield, Conn.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 22, at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, located at 29 Winter St. in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, March 23, at St Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale. Interment will be in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
