Rita M. Marston, 87, died on Nov. 26, 2012, at The Pavilion in Sanford after a long illness.
She was born in Springvale on Dec. 9, 1924, the daughter of Jean and Emma (Blouin) Couture, and attended Notre Dame Elementary School.
She worked in the Sanford Mills, the Springvale Shoe Shop, and Aletta's Dress Factory, and retired from Jagger Brothers mill in 1986.
As someone who never got her driver's license, Rita will be fondly remembered as the lady who walked everywhere. At 78, she could be seen walking from her home in Springvale to Walmart, a good five-mile walk one way.
She was predeceased by her husband, William (Billy) Marston, in 1982, by a son, Donald Marston, in 1983, and by a daughter, Marlene Paradis, in 2003.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Blanchard, of Sanford; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and her brother, Roland Couture, and his wife, Ida.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish at Notre Dame Church in Springvale. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale.
