Robert Lee Anderson
South Berwick, Maine – Robert Lee Anderson died at home in South Berwick, Maine on Monday June 30, 2014. He was born on March 3, 1937 in Gardner, Mass., the son of Otto and Laverina (Smith) Anderson.
He obtained his civilian pilots license at the age of 14, which started a long carrier in the aviation industry. Robert graduated from Gardner High School in 1955 and joined the U.S. Air Force
directly out of high school. He served in Korea, Vietnam, Iwo Jima, and Japan, during the Vietnam war
, as a Navigational Aids (NAVAIDS) Technician. While stationed at Elmandorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska he flew as a bush pilot and a flight instructor. He retired from the Air Force as Master Sargent (MSGT) in 1975 after 20 years of service and was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a Navigational Aid-Communications Technician. He served 23 more years with the FAA before retiring as Boston Logan Airport Sector Field Office Manager. He was then hired by Lockheed Martin as a Senior Systems Engineer. He worked for Lockheed Martin for another 14 years before his final retirement in 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Natalie (Stewart) of 47 years, 5 children - Kristin (Leigh), Paul, Cheryl, Michael and Bobby. He has 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Friends are invited to visit with Bob's family on Thursday from 4-7 pm in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904. A graveside service and military honors will be celebrated on Friday at noon in the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, Shapleigh, Maine 04083. Care for the Anderson family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
