Robert Weyland HenkelPORTSMOUTH - Robert (Bob) Weyland Henkel, 55, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 surrounded by his family.

Bob was born on Nov. 26, 1957 in San Francisco, Calif., the son of Robert W. and Barbara T. (Vejvoda) Henkel. When Bob was 8 his family moved to New York City where he spent the remainder of his childhood.

Bob graduated from Columbia College, where he rowed crew, and where he earned a BA in Computer Science. After working in the Financial Services industry in London and on Wall Street, Bob and his wife, Polly, settled in Portsmouth, N.H., and in 1995 together established Weyland Capital Management, where Bob had acted as chief investment officer until his death.

Bob loved life and had many talents and interests. In addition to his lifelong passion for investing and market analysis, he enjoyed traveling, cross-country skiing, and was an avid fan of music, particularly jazz, and an accomplished drummer. Bob was an outstanding chef and loved preparing culinary feasts for his family and friends. Bob was well-read and relished engaging in spirited discussions about politics, the economy, and world events.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, and best friend, Polly, their sons, George and Henry, his parents, several brothers and sisters-in-laws, and numerous nieces, and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the North Congregational Church, Market Square, Portsmouth. Friends invited.
