KITTERY, Maine - Walter A. "Butch" Wheeler Jr, 64 formerly of Kittery died on August 21, 2013 at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, following a battle against cancer.

Born On December 18, 1948 in Lewiston, Maine, he was a son of Walter A. Sr. and Geraldine "Gerry" (Berry) Wheeler.

Butch proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, receiving a number of decorations including the Army Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart.

He is survived by his parents of Kittery, a son Walter Wheeler III of Alaska, a daughter Jessica Raeside, her husband Travis and family of South Berwick, sisters and brothers; Brenda Tripp of Florida, Jim and Joyce Wheeler of Eliot, Cassie and Randy Bullis of Pennsylvania, Rusty and Kathy Wheeler of Kittery, David and Robin Wheeler of Eliot, Gary and Cheryl Wheeler of Augusta, Jane and Terry Beach of Eliot and many nieces and nephews including great and great great nieces and nephews. Butch was predeceased by his infant children, son Robert John and daughter Tracy Lynn of Marlboro, Mass. and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Tripp of York, Maine.

Friends may visit with Butch's family on Thursday, September 5th from 5-8 p.m. at the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904. A memorial service at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale will be announced later in the fall. Donations in his name may be made to -1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Topsham, Maine 04086 or Disabled Veterans Administration. Care for the Wheeler family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
