William Coyne Sr.

BARRINGTON - William Coyne, Sr. 86, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Manchester VA Medical Center following a period of failing health.

Born March 30, 1926 in Cambridge, Mass., he was the son of the late William and Catherine (Hogan) Coyne.

Mr. Coyne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on board the USS Carmick, which was one of only a few destroyers that was outfitted and reclassified as a naval minesweeper. He later worked for many years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He was a life member of the DAV and a member of the American Legion Post 7.

He loved playing country music and was a well known musician in the area.

Members of his family include his children William Coyne, Jr. of Farmington; Sean Elliott and wife Gina of Barrington; Brian Elliott and wife Madeline of Sanbornville; and Michael Elliott and wife Barbara of Barnstead; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, his sister Claire Bickerstaffe of Fla.; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter Linda Elliott and brother Francis Coyne.

Family and friends may visit Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, N.H.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.

Burial will take place in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington in the spring.
