William H. Elliott, Jr.
SHAPLEIGH, Maine - William H. Elliott, Jr., 85, of Shapleigh, Maine, left this earth on December 14, 2012 at home with his loving family by his side. William was born on November 10, 1927 in Dover, N.H.
He served active duty as a USCG-Merchant Marine from 1944 to 1945 during WW2
and received the Atlantic War Zone Medal and Honorable Service Button.
He owned and operated Plaza Shell on Lafayette Rd. in Portsmouth, N.H. from 1962 to 1977. He then opened Middle Street Texaco on Middle Road where he semi-retired and his son William took over in 1985, but still working to the age of 79.
On November 15, 1952 he married his wife Faye (Meek) Elliott from Kittery, Maine. They raised three wonderful children together. They moved to their home on Mousam Lake in 1974 where they enjoyed the peace and serenity that surrounded their lives. His home was always open to everyone where he and his wife made lots of memories for the family.
In his younger years he was not only an avid water skier he loved boating, putting massive puzzles together, shooting pool, playing horse shoes and entertaining friends from all around the lake. He was an active member of the Springvale Social Club and Lafayette Club in Sanford. He enjoyed playing cards with many special friends and family.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all who cared for William (Bill), especially the dedicated staff from SolAmor Hospice, Dr. William Frank and staff and the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine in Sanford.
He is survived by his sister, Louise Ecshmann of Barrington, N.H.; his son, William and wife Barbara of Shapleigh, Maine; his son, Glen and wife Guadilla of Shapleigh, Maine; his daughter, Nancy Wakefield and significant other Patrick Frasier of Shapleigh, Maine; many grandchildren and great grandchildren that he enjoyed special times; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years Faye (Meek) Elliott of Shapleigh, Maine and his father William H. Elliott, Sr. and mother Caroline (Hackett) Elliott of Dover, N.H.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday December 19 at 7 p.m. at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Visiting hours will begin at 4 p.m. until the time of the funeral service.
A graveside service will take place at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Dover, N.H. on Thursday December 20. The time of the service will be announced at the end of the funeral Wednesday night. A celebration of life will be held immediately following for all family and friends that would like to attend at his home on 90 31st Street Shapleigh, Maine.
