KITTERY, Maine - Wilma H. Edwards, 106, died Dec. 30, 2012, at Durgin Pines in Kittery.

She was born in Richburg, Ala., March 3, 1906, the daughter of Baker and Viola (McGhee) Hurt.

Wilma attended New Hope Baptist Church in Portsmouth, was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing.

While living in Alabama, Wilma taught Sunday School for over 60 years, was an usher in her church, was active in her community, having worked in the polls at election time. She recently received the Boston Post Cane as Kittery's oldest resident.

Wilma loved being surrounded by children and was a talented quilter.

Members of her immediate family include her son Kelvin and his wife, Royaline Edwards of Kittery; a daughter, Dorothy Youngblood of Huntsville, Ala,; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Springfield Baptist Church, 307 S McGowan St. New Brockton, Al 36351.

Burial will follow in Hardshell Cemetery, Clintonville, AL.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in New Hope Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

Local arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery.

Arrangements in Alabama are being handled by Sconiers Funeral Home, 305 Plaza Dr. Enterprise, Al 36330.
