Ernest Joseph Normand

BERWICK, Maine - Ernest Joseph Normand, 78 years, died March 22, 2014, at home following a long illness.

Ernest was born April 18, 1935, in Dover, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (King) Normand. He attended Berwick schools and left to work with his father at Joseph Normand & Son, a very successful 3rd generation carpentry contracting business in Berwick that had been started by his grandfather. At the age of 17, Ernest proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his tour of duty, he came back home to work with his dad and married his sweetheart, Mavis Corinne Felker on August 25, 1956.

Ernest enjoyed his work and was often busy with projects around his home. He enjoyed camping, spending time with his friends, and stock car racing. He raced for over 10 years and he enjoyed rebuilding and restoring his 1946 Ford. He was a very giving unselfish person and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Charles S. Hatch Post # 79 of the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, Ernest was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Normand, and by his grandson, Luke Normand.

Ernest is lovingly missed by his wife, Mavis; his son, Gary E. Normand of Berwick; his grandson, Adam Gary Normand of Old Orchard Beach; his daughter-in-law, Paula Normand; three sisters; and his special cat, Buddy.
