Agnes Theresa Bernstein

KITTERY, Maine - Agnes Theresa Bernstein, 82, of Sterling Road in Kittery, died on Feb. 12, 2013, at her home following a period of failing health. Born in Jersey City, N.J., she was a daughter of Thomas W. and Helen V. (Ferguson) Hayes. She attended local schools including Dickinson High School in Jersey City. In 1962, Agnes married her loving husband of over 50 years Arthur Bernstein. Together they made their home in New Jersey and raised two daughters.

While in New Jersey, Agnes worked for a number of years at Sheppards Baking Company and FW Woolworth's. In 1988, Agnes and Arthur made their home in Kittery, Maine. After working for a time at the Fuller Brush Outlet and the Childrens Place Outlet, Agnes enjoyed many years of caring for her granddaughter, Jilliane. Agnes became a foundation member of St Raphael's Church in Kittery where she served on many committees and projects and looked forward to working at the Hallelujah party each year.

Some of her favorite leisure activities were shopping, going to the movies, attending plays at SRT and Prescott Park and meeting friends for coffee at Dunkin' Donuts. She is survived by her loving husband Arthur of Kittery, daughters Doreen Ravell of Hampton, and Carolyn Bernstein of New York City as well as her beloved granddaughter Jilliane Ravell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Parish of The Ascension of The Lord in St. Raphaels Church on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. Friends may visit with Agnes' family on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine, 03904. Donations may be made in her memory to the . Care for the Bernstein family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
