SOMERSWORTH - Antoinette (Gagnon) Deschenes, 95, formerly of Union St., died January 26, 2013, at the St. Ann Healthcare Center in Dover with family members at her side.
A lifelong resident of Somersworth, she was born here May 6, 1917, the daughter of Henri and Clarida (Turgeon) Gagnon.
Toni was also a lifelong communicant of St. Martin Church where she was very active in church activities, she sang in the choir and was a member and Past President of the St. Anne Sodality. She also was very involved in scouting.
Her home was always open to family and friends and Toni shared her love of cooking with anyone who visited.
Her husband of 64 years, Ovila Deschenes died May 27, 2001.
In order to spend time with her children when they were young, Toni worked from home lacing shoes. Later, she was employed by South Berwick Shoe & Weiss-Lawrence Shoe Company.

Her children and their spouses, Martin and Margot of Nashville, Tenn., Roger and Helen of Sacramento, Calif., a daughter-in-law, Judy Deschenes of Somersworth, Valmore and Elaine of Somersworth, Clement of Manchester, N.H. and Beatrice and Maurice Lizotte of Somersworth, her siblings, Anna Charpentier of Mass. Roland Gagnon of Somersworth,, Paul Gagnon of Fla., George Gagnon of Somersworth, and Andy Gagnon of Lebanon, Maine. Toni is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald "Lefty" Deschenes and her siblings, Maurice, Leo, Lillian, Eva, Richard, Raymond, Armand and Rita.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m. at Bernier Funeral Home 49 South Street Somersworth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in St. Martin Church, corner of West High Street & Maple Street Extension, Somersworth with Rev. Robert Biron as celebrant.
Spring burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of St. Ann Healthcare and SolAmor Hospice for the dedicated care extended to Toni.
