Arline I. Eldredge

SANFORD - Arline I. Eldredge, 97, of Sanford, died in Kennebunk on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.

Arline was born in Sanford on April 6, 1915, to Grover and Mabel (Cram) Hall.

She grew up in Sanford, attended local schools, and graduated from Sanford High School.

When she was young, she was employed at the Sanford mills and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until she was married, at which time she left work to start her family.

Arline enjoyed playing Bingo and vegetable gardening. When she was younger, she also enjoyed going dancing with her husband on a regular basis.

Arline was known as a wonderful cook by her friends and family. She enjoyed having company, and nobody who visited her left without having something to eat.

She was also a very witty woman with an excellent sense of humor.

Arline was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who devoted her life to caring for her family. She will be dearly missed.

Arline was predeceased by her husband, Burkett, and her two sons, Michael and Stephan.

Surviving are her grandchildren, Cynthia Lytle and her husband, Matt, of Springfield, Ohio, and Michael Eldredge, Jr. and his wife, Rachel, of Sanford; five great grandchildren, Aaron, Evan and Jenna Lytle and Alaina and Chase Eldredge; one great-great granddaughter, Kairi; and many nieces and nephews.

This poem, written by Cynthia and given to Arline years ago, only begins to explain how much Arline is revered by her family.

Gifts Of Memories (for Grammy Arline)

3-Hole cakes

Golden Rod kisses

New school shoes

And pretty pink dresses

Home cooked meals

Longs days at the beach

I remember with fondness

All of these things

So thank you for all

Of these memories

You've given so much

To Mike and to me

And when I get to be a Grandma

It will be my goal

To make gifts of memories

Like those you've bestowed

At Arline's request, there will be no public services.
