SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Bette F. Bedell, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2012 after a brief period of failing health. She had been afflicted with Alzheimer's disease for the last four years of her life.

She was born in Portsmouth on May 31, 1928, to John and Agnes (MacCartan) Rooney. She attended St. Patrick's school and Portsmouth High School and resided in Portsmouth for the majority of her life. She was employed as an accountant for a few local concerns, chief among them, Combustion Engineering of Newington.
After retirement she traveled extensively to all corners of the world and resided variously in San Diego, Calif., Melbourne, Fla., and Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
Mrs. Bedell was very active in the Catholic Church over her lifetime, participating in many church activities, conducting Bible study instruction, and assisting with bookkeeping duties. She was an avid coin collector, read voraciously, and dabbled with handcrafted jewelry and other crafts, she had many other interests over the years that she pursued with passion and vigor. She will be dearly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Richard J. Bedell in 1995.
She is survived by her three sons, Ron and his wife Carol Bedell of Blaine, Wash., Steve and his wife Lorraine Bedell of Dover, and Kevin Bedell of Las Vegas, Nevada; and three grandchildren, Jeff and Ryan Bedell of San Diego, Calif. and Nicole Rogers of Ashville, N.C. Also a sister, Mildred Flisher of Melbourne, Fla.
