NEWFIELDS - A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Charlene Smith, 82, of Newfields, New Hampshire passed away in her home with family by her side at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012. She was born on July 1, 1930 in Newcastle, Maine to Merle and Annis Sharp. She bravely battled lymphoma cancer for twelve years.

Charlene and her husband built their home in Newfields where she spent her early years raising her family. She worked for 19 years in the food industry at Phillips Exeter Academy and was known to many as "Gram." She spent countless hours volunteering and giving back to the community as an active member of the Newfields Community Church and the Newfields Homemakers Association.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Daniel Perry Smith; brother, Dana Sharp; son, Gary Smith and wife, Janet; four grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Amy (Smith) Schimoler, Brett Smith and Robert McBride; five great grandchildren, Hayden, Brennan, and Nolan Schimoler and Damon Smith and Avery Chase. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Perry Smith.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 1 at the Newfields Community Church with Rev. Duke T. Gray officiating. A graveside service at the Newfields Cemetery on Route 108 will be conducted following the service.
