Charles E. Perry

KITTERY, Maine - Charles E. Perry, 95, of 143 Rogers Rd. Meetinghouse Village passed away on December 16, 2012 at Edgewood Center following a period of failing health.

A true native of Kittery Point, born and raised on Haley Road, on April 19, 1917, he was the youngest son of Charles E. Perry, Sr. and Pearl Isabelle (Davis) Perry.

He married his loving wife Florrie (Wentzell) Perry on June 16, 1940, and together they lived for a time on Bridge Street before settling on Old Armory way in Kittery, where they would raise a family and be active members of their community. Charlie enjoyed his many years as a Kittery firefighter and Boy Scout leader, himself being an Eagle Scout as a young man. As well as serving on the school committee as a chair for many years. His greatest joy of all was being at home with his loving family.

Charlie served his country as a member of the United States Navy serving as a pipe fitter, second-class. Upon his discharge from the military he led a long career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Most notably, enjoying his role building the USS Albacore AGSS#569 and enjoying being a part of speaking at the museum.

Following retirement he and his wife enjoyed more than 25 years living at their home in Lakeland, Florida. They were both very active socially, golfing, enjoying the company of friends and he tending to his many flower gardens where ever they lived.

Most recently Charlie enjoyed making his home at Meetinghouse Village in Kittery, Maine for nearly the last dozen years where he has made many friends.

He is survived by his loving family, daughters, Judy Pettit and son-in-law, Harry Pettit, Janet Murray and son-in-law, Jeffrey Murray and Charlene McDaniel and husband Paul McDaniel; grandchildren, Jeffrey Pettit and wife Dawn, Coleen Johnson and husband Brad, Brant McDaniel and wife Kristin, Todd McDaniel and wife Nikki, Kristen Lyons and husband Heath, Jason Murray and wife Jamie, Nick Murray and wife Meg; and many beautiful great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews along with his loving friend Doris Cushing.

Friends may visit with his family on Friday December 21st, 2012 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the JS Pelkey funeral home, 125 Old Post Rd., Kittery, Maine, where a funeral will be held at 10 a.m. A time of sharing and refreshments will follow in the solarium at Meetinghouse Village at 143 Rogers Rd., Kittery, Maine all are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Footprints Food Pantry, PO Box 246 Kittery, Maine 03904. Care for the Perry family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
