ROLLINSFORD - Chester "Chet" Lloyd Goodrich, 100, of Rollinsford, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home Monday, Feb. 11, 2013.
Chet was born on July 26, 1912, in Berwick, Maine, the son of Samuel and Marion (Lord) Goodrich.
Chet was married for 63 years, to his beloved wife, Helen Knowlton. Chet was the proprietor of the Maple Leaf Farm for 46 years on Roberts Road in Rollinsford, a resident 75 years and operated a full-time dairy farm and sold vegetables, blueberries and honey. He often was described by others as jolly, and as an honorable, distinguished and hardworking man. Chet loved being on his farm tending his cows and tending his crops. His locally grown sugar corn was quite famous! He was the reigning chef in his kitchen and loved baking beans, making cider doughnuts. Chet was a member of Bethel Christian Church.
Retiring in 1984 from farming but continued to work for Hannaford supermarkets 15 years he was (90) when he finally retired from the work force. Chet was proud and continued to stay active tilling his own massive garden, growing blueberries and tending his bees to make honey. Chet was also known as the "bee man."
He was predeceased by his wife Helen "Peggy" A (Knowlton) Goodrich, and two children, a daughter, Helen "Peggy Ann" A Grobes and a son, William A Goodrich; and a grandson, Michael J Drew and a brother, Vernon Goodrich.
Chet is survived by two foster children, Janet Fullington and Robert White, two grandchildren Bryan M. Drew and Joscelyne K. Drew, his four great-grandchildren, Morgan A. Drew, Taylor A. Drew, Taber S. Smith and Taven D. Smith; as well as many family members.
Flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be made in Chester's name to Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Road, Dover, N.H. 03820.
Friends and family may call from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, N.H.
