KITTERY, Maine— Donald O. Ares, 80, died on August 24, 2012 at the Hyder Family Hospice House, with his family by his side.

He was born in Gardner, Mass. July 31, 1932 the son of Oliva and Elinor (Lashua) Ares.
Donald retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps with over twenty years of service. Serving his Country in Korea and Vietnam. Following his military career he attended La Salle College in the Philippines earning a degree in accounting, which he used in his career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an auditor.
When not working, he dedicated himself to his family, enjoying travel to the Philippines with his loving wife Estrella and family. Donald also enjoyed fishing, carpentry, coaching little league, gardening and time spent volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.
He was the husband of Estrella (Gutierrez) Ares of Kittery, father to Henry Areas, Stephen Ares, John Lankford, Stephenie Khan and Rizalina Ares, brother to Joyce Hicks and George Ares and was a devoted grandfather to his five grandchildren.
Friends may visit with Donald's family on Tuesday from 4 to 5 p.m. in the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery, Maine 03904, where a memorial service will be celebrated at 5 p.m. with the Fr. John Skeehan officiating.
Donations may be made in Donald's memory to "Columban Fathers," PO Box 10, St. Columbans, NE 68056-0010. Care for the Ares family has been entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home.
