BARRINGTON - Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Seaver, age 77, died peacefully at home in Barrington, N.H., on Dec. 29, 2012 surrounded by her loved ones.
Betty was born on Jan. 14, 1935, in Portsmouth, to Albert and Marguerite (Ball) Witham. She grew up in Barrington with her mother "Peg" and her stepfather, Earl "Diddy" Colby and her three sisters. She graduated from Spaulding High School in 1953.
Betty married Ronald Seaver in Dover, on May 29, 1954, and was married for 58 years.
At the age of 54, she earned her associates degree in Business Management from UNH while working full time as dining room manager at the New England Center in Durham, N.H. Betty retired from the New England Center after 25 years and in 1989 moved to Newington, N.H., where she and her husband Ron became caretakers of the DeRochemont Estate, a corporate guest house for 13 years.
Throughout her life, she was passionate about volunteering and giving back to her community. She started with the PTA beginning in the 1960s; was co-leader of the Ponytails 4-H club; Barrington School District clerk from 1970-75 and the Barrington Bicentennial Committee. After retiring, she began volunteering with CASA, working with them for 12 years; teaching ESL and GED preparation; Barrington Library Trustee from 2004-07; volunteering at the Barrington Middle School; and was a lifetime member and supporter of the Barrington Historical Society. She had a talent for art and enjoyed sewing, knitting, doll-making, painting, and drawing. She loved giving her creations to family and friends.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ronald Paul Seaver; sisters, Alberta Calef-St. Cyr and Shirley Haley of Barrington; her children, Dawn Seaver of Barrington, David Seaver and his wife Nicky Simic of Strafford, and Jennifer Morton and her husband, Aaron of Alton; her grandchildren Colby and Shaun McFall, Samuel Bergeron, and Lydia, Emelie and Madison Morton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Gloria Maine and her daughter, Tracy Jean Berry.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Governor's Inn at 78 Wakefield St., Rochester, N.H. with a Celebration of Life for Ron and Betty to follow.
