Elizabeth P. (Betty) Snow

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Elizabeth P. (Betty) Snow, 70, of South Berwick, died in peace at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, New Hampshire on March 29, 2014.

Betty was born in Sanford on June 21, 1943 a daughter of Royal and Essie (Dorr) Libby and was a graduate of North Berwick High School. She attended Cambridge School of Business in Boston where she received her skills and training to run the front office in a variety of business fields. Betty held dear to her heart the opportunity of serving her country and enlisted in the United States Navy in May of 1966.

Following her honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Betty began a long and successful career of 30 plus years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. It was here she would be meet her future husband, David Snow. She helped him complete some necessary paperwork, and with encouragement from his best friend; they married June 6, 1981 at the Federated Church in South Berwick.

Betty and David took their honeymoon out of Portland Harbor on the SS Caribe (big, white boat) - they affectionately called, "The Love Boat" and visited Nova Scotia and the surrounding villages. Throughout their marriage they would enjoy many trips to Canada, the Moosehead Lake region or be content in taking a ride around the beach at night to watch the tourist. She had a perpetual green thumb and a vision of how her flower gardens should ebb and flow. Betty loved the arrival of spring and being able to take in the many flower shows; especially the Orchid Shows.

Betty was a homebody at heart. She loved watching the natural habitat such as deer, birds, squirrels and the big Tom turkeys striding by. She had her share of dogs and cats through the years. With her girlfriends, Betty was a faithful walker; she would go about a mile a day and made sure she attended her weekly workouts at Curves.

Betty was kind, generous and loved people. She and David had a happy and full marriage. They remained soul mates. With the challenges and treatments Betty went through for her cancer; she was never alone. Her beautiful flower gardens will come alive and be renewed each spring - and her memory will be cherished by all that had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, David J. Snow of South Berwick, Maine; her sister Kathy Wainwright and husband Cary of Rochester; two nephews, 2 grandnieces and 2 grandnephews; and four stepchildren, eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and cousins.

A Graveside service with military honors will be held this spring on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.
