NORTH HAMPTON — Elizabeth Riley Howe, 50, of North Hampton, died at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday August 22, 2012 following a 14-month long battle with brain cancer.

She was born in Dover, September 23, 1961, the daughter of Edith Riley Morrison and the late Wilfred (Bill) Riley. Beth graduated from Dover High School, class of 1979, and the University of New Hampshire. She obtained Masters degrees from Cambridge College and New England College, summa-cum-laude and also participated in the Outward Bound Leadership Program.

Beth worked for 16 years at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, serving most recently as Inter-Departmental Service Coordinator in Behavioral Health Services. She previously counseled emotionally disturbed teens at the former Harbor School in their Haverhill, Merrimack, and Newburyport, Mass. programs.

A devoted and caring mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend, Beth's many interests included travel, hiking and outdoor sports, music, gardening and socializing with friends old and new. She was quick to lend a helping hand to people and encouraged others to do the same.

She was predeceased by her father Wilfred (Bill) Riley, of Moultonborough, in May of 2008.

She is survived by her husband of 13 years Jonathan Spooner Howe and daughter Maegan Bartlett Howe, of North Hampton; her mother, Edith Riley Morrison of Exeter; her sister, Barbara Riley and her husband Julian Graubart of Washington, D.C.; her sister, Carol Riley Weatherby and her husband Mark Weatherby of Hampton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Virginia, Connecticut and Florida.

Beth's family thanks her medical teams at Portsmouth Hospital, Portsmouth Oncology Center, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Mass., the Rockingham County VNA and Hospice and a wide circle of friends who provided her care and kindness.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, August 24, 2012 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton, N.H.
