Gerard R. Bougie

SANFORD - Gerard Raymond Bougie, 88, passed peacefully on July 11, 2013.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1924, in Sanford.

During World War II, Gerard served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1945.

In 1950, he married the love of his life, Theresa Hubert, and they shared 63 years together.

Gerard was preceded in death by his father, Ovila, mother Eva, three brothers, Paul, Rheal and Conrad, and a grandson, Justin.

He is survived by his wife Theresa (Hubert); two sons, Raymond and William; a daughter, Jeannette; 6 grandchildren, Seth, Meghan, Sam, Ryley, Ryan and Cayla; one great grandson, Ewan; two brothers, Roger and Fernand; and four sisters, Jackie, Rita, Lorraine and Simone.

He worked as a sexton at Notre Dame Church in Springvale for many years until he and wife joined their children in Arizona in 1981. He worked at ASU for 10 years before retiring in 1992 and was a Eucharistic Minister from 1973 to 2007.

Gerard was an expert cabinet maker and enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, attending sports events with his children, and taking road trips with his family and friends. He was surrounded by a fun-loving family and many good friends wherever he was.

A memorial service is set for Monday, July 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Timothy's Parish in Mesa, Ariz.
