SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Harvey Louis Mick, Sr., 87, of South Berwick, died on Friday, March 1, 2013 at his residence.
He was born in Lancaster, Mass., on Sept. 23, 1925, a son of John and Leona (Brown) Mick. He grew up and was educated in South Berwick.
In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country during World War II aboard amphibious vessels in the Pacific Area of Operations. Following his discharge, he returned home to South Berwick and went to work for the former Rocky Gorge Woolen Mill in South Berwick. In 1954, he began a 31-year career as a rigger at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1985.
Harvey enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was also an excellent handyman, and took pride in the upkeep of his home. Harvey was a 58-year member of both the American Legion, Martel-Roberge Post 47 in Rollinsford, and the VFW, Boardman-Ellis Post 6977 in York Beach. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and David Mick, and two sisters, Marian Lee and Mamie Davis.
Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Patricia Mick of South Berwick; his son, Harvey Louis Mick, Jr., and wife Rita of Rollinsford; two daughters, Patricia Ann Chenny of South Berwick, Pamela Darling and husband Brian of Newington; a brother, Samuel Mick of Durham, eight grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick. Should friends choose, memorial donations in his memory may be made to: American Legion, Martel-Roberge Post 47, PO Box 478, Rollinsford, NH 03869.
