James Alan Cassidy

STRAFFORD - James "Jim" Alan Cassidy, 58 years old, a resident of Strafford, died at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 3, 2013 following a long illness. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 23, 1955, in Melrose, Mass., to Joseph Anthony Cassidy and Elizabeth Jean Manners Cassidy, both of whom are deceased.

Raised in Manchester and Northwood, he was a graduate of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy and the University of New Hampshire, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering. For the past 23 years he resided in the home he designed and built. Following a career in chemical engineering, he became self-employed as a designer/builder/general contractor.

A devoted husband and father, he loved skiing, music, woodworking, reading, his home and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Plaza Cassidy, his stepson Jonathan, and his daughter Madison. He is further survived by his sisters, Elizabeth, Mary and Patricia, and his brothers, Joseph, Dan and John. He is also survived by an aunt, Dorothy, and an uncle, William, and numerous nephews and nieces.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, Brookside Congregational Church, 2013 Elm St., Manchester, N.H. In lieu of flowers a scholarship fund in memory of James Cassidy has been established at Berwick Academy, c/o Development Office, 31 Academy St., South Berwick, Maine 03908.
