DOVER, N.H. - James Edward Eagen, "Jim," 55, of Eliot, Maine, died on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born on July 25, 1957, in Dover, the son of the late Raymond F. and the late Christine A. (Chaisson) Eagen.
Jim spent the last few years living on the river and enjoying his boat. He enjoyed sharing his love of the river with his granddaughters, Sophie and Penelope, and would like to take them on long boat rides to the Dover Marina and back.
Jim attended the Dover school system.
He took great pride in spending 30 years as an accomplished mason.
For the last few years, he was employed by Finest Kind Charters, of Ogunquit, Maine.
Jim enjoyed all outdoor activities - skiing, snowmobiling, motorcycles and boating. He was an avid cook who was very territorial of his kitchen.
Jim spent the last four years of his life with Caren Raby, whom he referred to as his "River Angel." Jim is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Russo, and her husband, Andy, of Rochester; his two granddaughters, Sophie Grace Russo and Penelope Sierra Russo; his two brothers, Raymond Eagen and Missy Laurette, of Dover, and George Koulas, of Alaska; his nephew, Damion Koulas; his sister, Lois Valliere, and her husband, Roger, of North Conway; his one aunt, Jeanette Manning, of Kingsport, Tenn.; and numerous cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Road, Dover, N.H. 03820.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for Jim's ongoing care in his final days by his devoted caregivers. Thank you, Sam, Amy, Kim, Debbie and, most of all, his partner, Caren. The York Hospice helped to give Jim the amazing gift of spending his final few days at home surrounded by his friends and family.
Friends and family called on Saturday, March 2. A memorial service was held that day at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home in Dover.
Interment will be at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Dover.
