James Campbell Obituary

DOVER - Dr. James Lee Campbell, Jr., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 11, 2016. He was a respected dermatologist and a beloved member of the Dover community.

Jim is survived by his daughter Sara, his son Jonathan, his furry children Carly, Carter, and Snoopy, his sister Jennifer and BroMo, his sister Janine, two Mikes, a Sean, his beloved fiancée Kristin Martin and so many others who loved him dearly.

He graduated from Haverhill High School in 1980, Bates College in 1984, and earned a Master's degree in epidemiology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1987. Jim was accepted into the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College where he graduated first in his class, receiving the Dean's Medal in 1993. Jim continued on with a dermatology residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and began his practice of medicine on the South Shore of Massachusetts before returning to New Hampshire to start his own practice in Dover.

Jim was an avid fly fisherman and a diehard Boston Red Sox fan. He loved to laugh and rock out to Bruce Springsteen and Zac Brown on long drives. He enjoyed identifying constellations and stars, and was excited and curious about the natural world. His passion for salmon and steelhead fishing took him on frequent weekend trips to his favorite spots in upstate New York and rare, special trips to Labrador, Canada with a group of close friends.

Jim was generous with his time, his effort and his smile. He frequently treated his staff, friends, and family to outings at Fenway Park that left lifelong memories. He contributed to countless charitable efforts, including Make Big Change, a nonprofit organization he founded to raise skin cancer awareness.

In recent years, Jim discovered Maui, where he felt truly at peace and planned to retire one day. He loved to bring his friends and family to the Secret Beach.

Dr. Campbell was predeceased by his father James L. Campbell, Sr. and his sister, Julie and most recently Ann "Joyce" Campbell, his mother.

Very nice man. he took me on As a new patient when I moved to the area even though he was very busy, bc of the melanoma in my family. I needed to have frequent scans and so he took me on. I am very grateful for that and was shocked to hear the news when I called to schedule an appointment the other day.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dr. Campbell's family and staff. I was devastated when I heard the sad news. I was a patient of his, and we spoke of how much our mothers meant to us. My mom passed away, and now his mom and Dr. Campbell are together in Heaven with my mom. You were such a wonderful man and doctor.
I will miss you.

Rest in peace,

Jim and I were DMS grads - and I was the last class with Dean Syvertsen. Jim took the time to help select students for the Syvertsen scholarship. I will always remember that.

To The Campbell Family and Staff of Dermatology and Skin Health,

I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to all of you. I met Dr Jim Campbell many years ago when he was on staff as a Dermatologist at South Shore Hospital. He was very handsome, kind, compassionate and dedicated to the practice of Dermatology. He was the most amazing man I had ever met. When I met him, I was recently Divorced, working Full Time and stressed out attending Nursing School. He offered to assist me in studying for Nursing School. I was very impressed by his kindness and compassion. He was my Guardian Angel that came to my rescue during a difficult time. We remained in communication since that time. He was so amazing. I always looked forward to a call or text from him as he was so amazing. I cannot believe he has passed away. My life feels so broken since his passing. My last text from him was concerning the death of his Mom. He was very devoted to her. I am sad to hear Bruce Springstein on the radio or to hear the Red Sox on TV and not to have had said Goodbye Jim, I will miss you every day forever.
Thanks for always being there for me.

Jim was a devoted colleague who never hesitated to run across the street to the Hospital to help make a diagnosis. His intellect, sense of humor, and generosity will be missed.

To The Campbell Family:

I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to all of the Campbell Family. I am devasted by the passing of Jim. I met Jim over 20 years ago while working at South Shore Hospital. I was immediately attracted to him. He was very handsome, kind, sincere and very educated as a Dermatologist. He was my Guardian Angel that came into my life when I was going through hard times after a Divorce. He offered to help me study for my Nursing Degree. I was very impressed by this. He was the most amazing man I had ever met in my life. He always made me feel positive even during difficult times in life.
It is difficult to accept that just a week ago he was sending me a Text Message and that his Mom had passed away. He was very devoted to caring for her during her illness. A week later I am crying reading his Obituary. It is difficult to believe that this amazing man has passed away. I am sad when I hear Bruce Springstein on the radio and the Red Sox Game on Television. These were two of his favorite passions in life. I am devastated and will miss him every day.
