DOVER - Jean W. Cross, 93, formerly of Lilac City Estates of Rochester, passed away peacefully at Watson Fields in Dover on October 24, 2012, with her three daughters at her side.
Born March 22, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Beatrice (Miller) Wormood.
Jean attended Alton Elementary School, Carpenter Elementary School and graduated from Brewster Academy in 1937, where she played field hockey.
Jean lived in Rochester for the past 26 years after moving from the Wolfeboro area, she spent winters in Barefoot Bay Fla. In Wolfeboro she was the owner of Ye Olde Dime Store and in Tuftonboro she owned the Museum Lodges. She took great pride in volunteering for organizations: a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Smyth School PTA in Manchester and Treasurer at The First Baptist Church in Manchester. She was also a member of the Wolfeboro Chamber of Commerce.
Jean is survived by her daughters; Cher Riley and husband Frank of Ossipee, Karen Bartlett and husband Bill of Portsmouth, and Linda Valyo and husband Jim of Rochester. Additional members of her family include six grandchildren; Tom, Amy, Vicki, Scott, Megan and J.B.; and six great-grandchildren; James, Connor, John, Abby, Kaitlin and Elloise; her nephews; Gary Cross and wife Cindy of Boxford Mass., and Charles French and wife Lynda of New Boston N.H., and her niece, Gail Poline and husband Don of Denver, Colo. Jean was predeceased by her husband Charles of 62 years and her brother, Frank Wormood and sister Muriel McBride.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Watson Fields for their dedication and wonderful care they gave Jean during her stay at Watson Fields.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations maybe made to the charity of ones choice.
Visitation hours will be held Saturday, November 10, from 10 - 11 a.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main Street Rochester. A memorial service will follow at 11a.m. A private burial will take place at a later date.
