Jeanne Davis Obituary

ROCHESTER – Jeanne Lea (Riley) Davis, 62, of Rochester passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, after a period of failing health.

Born Nov. 25, 1953, in Huntington, Long Island N.Y., Jeanne was the daughter of the late Jeanne A. (Morgan) Ringer and Herbert F. Riley Sr. She grew up in Farmington, N.H., and attended Farmington High School, graduating in 1971. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Business Management at Granite State College.

Jeanne began her career at UNH in 1975 hired into the newly created Research Office. From there she moved to the Space Science Center where she became the Business Manager for the Gamma Ray Observatory/Comptel project in 1981. In 1985 the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space (EOS) was created and Jeanne became the Assistant Director of the Institute. She later returned to the Space Science Center to become the Assistant Director of Space Science/Director of Finance and Contract Administration. She continued her career until her failing health forced her to leave in Nov. of 2013. Her career spanned thirty-eight years and she valued the relationships made with friends and colleagues over the years. She was very proud of her accomplishments during her years at UNH.

Jeanne loved music and attended many concerts enjoying front row seats at the Grand Ole Oprey in Nashville Tenn. She never gave up her Rock "n Roll but she had a soft spot for country. She loved playing strategy games like Risk, Words with Friends and Soduku. Mostly she loved spending time with her family and friends doing cookouts or dinners together.

Members of her family include her loving husband of nine years, Edward "Arnold" Davis of Rochester: her son Zachary J. Rippett and his wife Lisa of Rochester; her brother Herbert F. Riley Jr. of Gilford, N.H.; four stepchildren Jodi Mae (Rippett) Aitola of Lakeworth, Fla.; Heath Dalzell of Dover, N.H. ; Joshua Rippett of Farmington, N.H.; Julia Kate Davis of Lebanon, Tenn,; her godchild Carrie Lynn Torres of Homestead, Fla.; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother Jeanne A. Ringer; her father Herbert F. Riley Sr., her brother Robert R. Riley, and her brother Kenneth C. Ringer III.

I'm sorry I just learned of your passing sweet Jeanne!, therefore, could not pay my respects at your services. I am Jeanne's God daughters Aunt. We have a lg family with lots of drama and such and Jeanne was alway there to "talk some damn sense into you fools" I have many memories sitting in her living room listening to her sing one of her favorite songs" leather and lace" she would beam while singing that song, especially to Zack when he was a baby!!! Zack, please find strength and comfort in knowing that YOU were undoubtedly, and absolutely, the best thing that could have happened to your mom!!!( her words) You were SO BLESSED to have her as your mother ! She was a TRUE MOTHER who loved you through everything and anything! She would NEVER TURN HER BACK on you for ANY reason, EVER!!! She would give her life, without a second thought, to keep you safe!! She would never ,ever give up on you, wild horses couldn't keep her from being an awesome Mom to you and making sure you had everything you could ever possibly need!!! Not all of us are as lucky as you!!

That smile and seriously , the most contagious laugh I've ever heard in my lifetime, so far, will never be forgotten by me, I can say that for certain!!! I'm sure I will hear it again.. when the time is just right!!! Until then, as sweet Jeanne would always sayyid me "keep raising Cain, it keeps them guessing!" my friend!! Xoxoxo

My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Jeanne was my UNH counterpart in contract negotiations on several NASA Projects. She was definitely my favorite and missed her after her retirement though she left a legacy at UNH which is still being followed. Rest in Peace Jeanne!
