Lauren Nielsen Frisbee

KITTERY, Maine - Lauren Nielsen Frisbee passed away peacefully March 5, 2013, surrounded by her family from complications of metastatic breast cancer.

Born May 13, 1949, in Newton, Mass., she was the oldest daughter of Robert and Ilene Nielsen of Lexington, Mass. Lauren married her devoted husband Keith Frisbee in 1974 and lived in Kittery Point surrounded by her flower gardens until 2009. As her cancer progressed, they left the blue waters of Pepperell Cove for a condo in Dover on the Bellamy River.

Lauren was a 1971 graduate from the University of Miami who taught school in Bedford, Mass., and Kittery Maine. She was President of Energy Resources Group and active in numerous community activities.

She was the proud mother of three daughters.

Lauren was most happy at her family's cottage on Bustins Island, Maine, where she spent her summers. There she enjoyed sunbathing on hot rocks, kayaking with her dog Sophie, boating and socializing with friends and family. Lauren had a knack for interior design and a love for antiques. She was an avid gardener and her Kittery Point gardens were part of botanical tours. Lauren has a special group of lifelong friends who are providing wonderful support during this difficult time.

The family would like to thank the compassionate doctors, nurses and caretakers of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dana-Farber, Wentworth Hospice and Home Instead with extended gratitude to her oncologist of four years Barbara Civiello, MD.

Lauren is predeceased by her father, Robert. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Keith; her mother Ilene; sister Joan Webb and her husband David; sister in-law Celeste Frisbee and her husband Craig Gossard; her three daughters, Holly Baron and her husband Jeremy, Carrie Hurn and her husband Derek, Jennifer Hames and her husband Rob. She leaves behind two granddaughters Brooke Baron and Annabelle Hames; beloved cousins; three nieces; a nephew; dear friends and her dog Sophie.

In celebration of Lauren's life, calling hours will be held at J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road Kittery, Maine on Saturday, March 9, from 2-6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amy's Treat, P.O. Box 2234 Dover, N.H. 03821
