ROCHESTER — Luella Baker Phillips, 84, of 14 Phillips Lane passed away Thursday Sept. 20, 2012 after a brief stay at Frisbie Memorial Hospital and the Rochester Manor.

She was born March 1, 1928 in Indianapolis, Ind. the daughter of the late Carl and Veola (Cheek) Baker.

She was a graduate of Aurora High School Class of 1946. She kept in touch with her classmates by mail and especially going back to Aurora for all of her class reunions.

On April 17, 1949 she married Dr. Fletcher Phillips in Indianapolis, where Fletcher attended Lincoln Chiropractic College. They moved to Rochester, in 1950.

She was an active member of the True Memorial Baptist Church for over 60 years. She took care of children in the nursery and was a Pioneer Girls Leader. Mrs. Phillips also worked with the Fresh Air Fund of New York City for many years escorting the children to NH and Massachusetts for summer vacations. She loved her time in New York City. She was a homemaker who enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and other friends' children when they were young. In her later years, she was a member of the Rochester Senior Citizens Group and the Homemakers Day Out Program.

The widow of Dr. Fletcher J. Phillips, who passed away in 2008, she is survived by her three children, Dr. Rev. Keith Phillips of Indianapolis, Ind., Linnette Richardson and husband David of Rochester, Bruce Phillips and wife Cynthia of Stratham; six grandchildren, Robin Jones, Norton, Mass., Amy Richardson, Derry, Ross Phillips, Norristown, Pa., Jonica Caldwell, Honolulu, H.I., Linley Phillips, New Albany, Ind., Geoffrey Phillips, New Albany, Ind.; and two great grandchildren, Kara Jones, Norton, Mass. and Kyle Phillips, Norristown, Pa. She was predeceased by her sister, Jean Ball.

Family and friends may visit Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, N.H.

The funeral service will be held Monday Sept. 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. in True Memorial Baptist Church, Ten Rod Road, Rochester, with Pastor Rick Lamirande, officiating.

Burial will be in Kimball Cemetery, Meaderboro Road, Rochester, N.H. following the service.
