SOMERSWORTH — Margaret Sue Modreski, 91, of Somersworth, passed away on May 11, 2012 at Riverside Rest Home, Dover.
The Guest Book is expired.
Margaret was born on December 7, 1920, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, daughter of John and Rose Michl.
She was a 1938 graduate of New Brunswick High School. Her family included an older sister, Marie Rose, who died in 1982.
On November 21, 1943 Marge married Peter Modreski, who was then serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They lived for a short time in San Rafael, California where he was stationed.
After the war they returned to New Brunswick, where their two children were born. They later moved to East Brunswick, New Jersey, and ultimately in 1970 to Somersworth. After 55 years of marriage, Pete passed away in April, 1999. Together, Marge and Pete enjoyed fishing in northern New Hampshire, traveling in the western U.S., and visiting their cabin in New Brunswick, Canada.
Marge loved to paint; her oil paintings done from the 1970s until 2004 are a treasure to her surviving family. She also liked to do embroidery and to create pictures depicting scenery, flowers, birds and other designs by cutting out and stitching together colored fabric on a felt background, and she donated many of these pieces to local churches or community groups.
Marge is survived by a daughter, Susan Marie (Modreski) Hopkins and her husband Ed, of Somersworth; a son, Peter John Modreski, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; and grandchildren Jennifer Lynn (Hopkins) George and her husband Zack, of Dover; Michael Christopher Hopkins of Rochester, NH; and Brian Charles Modreski, of Thornton, Colorado.
